Stage 01—Fibre carding

Fibre carding

Raw staple fibres are combed and aligned into an even web.

  • Stage 01, Fibre carding. Raw staple fibres are combed and aligned into an even web.
  • Stage 02, Finishing. Heat and pressure or a resin binder bond the web, giving it strength and stability.
  • Stage 03, Coating. Thermal adhesive dots are applied to one side, ready to fuse under a heat press.
  • Stage 04, Cutting and packing. Rolls are slit to your width, cut to length, inspected and packed for dispatch.
  • Stage 05, Used in garments. The garment factory fuses the interlining to collars, cuffs and lapels to add shape.
  • Stage 06, Beyond the garment. The same interlinings and non-wovens go into car interiors, sofas, packaging and cable wrap.

Anatomy of a Shirt

EVERY PART HAS A MATERIAL BEHIND IT

Go through the garment part by part. Each one names the JGS material fused inside it, and the specification it is supplied to.

  • Collar & cuffs: Woven Interlining, Stiff / medium / soft. Fused into the collar so the points stay flat and the stand holds its line through wear.
  • Front placket: Woven Interlining, 90–136 cm width. The button band down the front. It keeps the closure straight and stops the edge rippling after washing.
  • Body & panels: Thermo Bond Non-Woven, 25–90 GSM. Thermally bonded, so the panel keeps a soft handle while still carrying structure where it is fused.
  • Cuffs & waistband: Chemical Bond Non-Woven, 25–90 GSM. Our most versatile non-woven. Chemically bonded for consistent strength across the widest range of parts.

EVERY STAGE UNDER OUR OWN ROOF

Across 2 advanced manufacturing units, fusing, bonding, coating, slitting and finishing all happen in-house. That is why we can trace a problem to its stage and fix it quickly.

  1. Stage 01

    Pre-treatment

    In-house dyeing and bleaching gives us control over colour and texture before a substrate ever reaches the coating line.

  2. Stage 02

    Coating and fusing

    Paste dot, microdot and scatter dot coating, so the adhesive coverage matches the fabric it has to bond to.

  3. Stage 03

    Heat setting

    The stenter locks in shape and stability, which is what stops a fused panel moving after the garment is made.

  4. Stage 04

    Cutting and inspection

    Rolls are slit to your exact width and every one is inspected inline before it leaves us.
